Stranded Jelly

Each year around October the beaches around Brisbane’s bays and the Sunshine Coast are inundated with stranded jelly fish.

This guy is the Jelly Blubber who happens to be the most commonly encountered jellyfish along the Australian eastern coast. He came in near the mangroves at Nudgee Beach on a big high tide and unfortunately for him became stranded at low tide. His iridescent blue colour is due to his symbiotic relationship with algal plant cells that live inside his body.
